How We Build a Custom Marketing Strategy for Every Client

Most agencies keep their process vague on purpose. "We'll build a custom strategy for your business" sounds good in a pitch, but what does that actually mean?

We'd rather just show you.

Here's exactly how we build a marketing strategy at Brummble — step by step, no gatekeeping. If you're evaluating agencies, this will show you what to expect (and what to demand). If you're doing it yourself, steal whatever's useful.

Step 1: The Discovery Call (Week 1)

Before we touch a single ad or design a single post, we need to understand your business. Not just what you do — but why you do it, who you do it for, and what's actually working (or not) right now.

On our first call, we're asking questions like:

  • What does your ideal customer/patient look like?

  • Where are most of your current leads coming from?

  • What have you tried before? What worked? What flopped?

  • What's your honest budget range?

  • What does "success" look like to you in 6 months?

This isn't a sales pitch disguised as a call. We genuinely need this information to do our job. We've turned down clients before because the fit wasn't right — and that's better for everyone.

Step 2: The Audit (Week 1-2)

Once we've talked, we dig into everything you've already got:

Website audit: Load speed, mobile experience, conversion paths, SEO basics. We're looking for quick wins and structural issues.

Social media audit: What's your posting frequency? What gets engagement? What's your follower-to-engagement ratio? Are you talking TO your audience or AT them?

Ad account audit (if applicable): If you've run Google or Facebook ads before, we look at every campaign, every dollar spent, every result. We regularly find clients spending $500-$1,000/month on ads that aren't tracked properly — meaning they have no idea if it's working.

Competitive landscape: What are the other businesses in your area doing? What keywords are they ranking for? What do their ads look like? We're not copying them — we're finding gaps.

Google Business Profile: Review count, star rating, response rate, photo freshness, post frequency.

This audit typically takes 5-7 days. It's not glamorous, but it's the foundation everything else is built on.

Step 3: Strategy Presentation (Week 2-3)

This is where it comes together. We sit down with you (in person or on video) and present:

Where you are now: An honest assessment. Here's what's working, here's what's not, here's what you're missing.

Where you can be: Based on your budget, market, and goals — here's what's realistic. Not "you'll be #1 on Google in 30 days" fairy tales. Real projections based on what we've seen work for similar businesses.

The plan: A specific, phased roadmap:

  • What we're doing in Month 1 (usually website fixes + ad launch)

  • What we're layering in Months 2-3 (content, SEO, retargeting)

  • What the 6-month trajectory looks like

We also talk about what we're NOT going to do. If your budget is $1,500/month, we're not going to spread it across 7 platforms and do all of them poorly. We'd rather dominate two channels than be mediocre everywhere.

Step 4: Content Creation and Asset Gathering (Week 3-4)

This is where most agencies drop the ball. They'll use stock photos, write generic copy, and launch ads that look like every other ad in your industry.

We do it differently.

Professional photographer capturing business interior for marketing content creation

On-site content shoots: We come to your business with cameras. We photograph your team, your space, your work in action. This content becomes the backbone of everything — your ads, your social posts, your website updates.

Why does this matter? Because a real photo of your actual team outperforms a stock photo every single time. People can tell the difference. Authenticity converts.

Brand voice development: We figure out how your business should sound. A pediatric dentist sounds different from a sports chiropractor. A family pizzeria sounds different from a high-end salon. We match the tone to the business and the audience.

Ad copy and creative: Every piece of creative is built around what we learned in discovery. Your differentiators, your patients' pain points, your actual results.

Step 5: Launch and Optimize (Month 1-2)

We don't launch everything at once. We start with the highest-impact channels and expand:

Week 1-2: Google Ads goes live (if search-based leads are the goal). We start with proven keyword sets and tight targeting, then expand as data comes in.

Week 2-3: Social media content calendar begins. Consistent posting with a mix of educational content, behind-the-scenes, patient stories, and promotional posts.

Week 3-4: Facebook/Instagram ads launch. We typically start with lead generation campaigns targeting your ideal customer demographics, plus retargeting for website visitors.

Month 2: Optimization. This is where the real work happens. We're reading the data daily — which ads are performing, which keywords are converting, what content is resonating. We double down on winners and cut losers fast.

Step 6: Reporting and Strategy Sessions (Ongoing)

Every month, you get:

  • A clear report showing what we spent, what we got, and what it cost per lead/patient/customer

  • A comparison to the previous month (are we trending up?)

  • Specific recommendations for next month

  • A live call to walk through everything and adjust strategy

No jargon. No 40-page reports full of metrics that don't matter. Just: here's how many people saw your marketing, here's how many took action, here's what it cost, and here's what we're doing next.

We also bring ideas to these sessions. New campaign concepts, seasonal opportunities, competitive changes we noticed, platform updates that affect your strategy. This isn't "set it and forget it" — it's an active partnership.

What Makes This Different From Other Agencies?

A few things we hear from clients who came from other agencies:

"My last agency never came to my office."

We think that's crazy. How can you market a business you've never stepped inside? The content shoot alone transforms everything.

"I never understood my reports."

If you can't explain your results to a 10-year-old, your reporting is too complicated. We keep it simple because simple is honest.

"They had 50 clients and I felt like an afterthought."

We intentionally keep our client roster small. Every client gets real attention, not a templated approach managed by an intern.

"They wanted a 12-month contract before doing anything."

We don't do long-term contracts. If our work isn't valuable enough for you to want to stay, a contract shouldn't force you to.

The Brummble Difference, in One Sentence

We treat your business like we'd want someone to treat ours — with real strategy, real creative, and real results you can see.
